Sometimes she runs, sometimes she hides, and sometimes she sings LIVE. Listen up, haters: No matter how much you bring her down, Britney Spears can absolutely perform live and KILL IT, and we have receipts to prove it.
During a concert in Singapore, the undisputed Princess of Pop took a short break from performing to wish her bodyguard, Jacob, a happy birthday.
“I have a really special friend tonight. He’s been with me… I’m gonna cry…for, like, five years," she announced to the crowd. He’s one of my favorite people. His name is Jacob. Everyone, let’s sing happy birthday!”
The singer surprised the audience, and of course, Jacob, with a beautiful acapella performance of "Happy Birthday," complete with runs and adlibs.
The impromptu vocal exhibition couldn't come at a more opportune time. See, Britney has been receiving tons of flack throughout her whole career because people believe she's incapable of performing live.
I don't know about you, but even if Britney does fake it the majority of the time, it doesn't really matter because she never fails to give a jaw-dropping performance.
Just recently, Spears finally shut down critics in an interview with an Israeli TV show:
A lot of people think I don't sing live. I usually, because I'm dancing so much, I do have a little bit of playback, but there's a mixture of my voice and the playback. It really pisses me off because I'm busting my ass out there and singing at the same time and nobody ever gives me credit for it, you know?"
OH, WE KNOW BRITNEY, WE KNOW!
Given the complicated choreography each Britney concert demands, it's actually necessary to have a bit of playback so the singer could give everyone the best show possible.
So in conclusion: Britney Spears CAN sing LIVE.
