As if we don't have enough reasons to love Starbucks, they're giving us another treat we didn't know we needed. The coffee chain is introducing a new item on their menu (that we've already memorized by heart): ICE CREAM.
Yup, you read that right. This is not a drill, people!
Starting this month, Starbucks will be serving ice cream, affogatos, to be specific, at more than 100 stores across the U.S.
If you're not familiar with an affogato, it's an Italian dessert that consists of a scoop of ice cream topped with a shot of espresso. Are you drooling yet?
People living in Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington DC will get a fancy version of the Starbucks affogato at Reserve bar locations. According to Business Insider, the menu will range from the Classic Affogato for $6 to the $8.50 Cold Brew Malt, made with small-lot cold brew, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate bitters.
Meanwhile, a cheaper version of the treat will be rolled across 100 stores in Orange County. These locations would serve similar items, but instead of small-lot brews, they'll be made with Starbucks' Narino 70 cold brew and chocolate bitters, which cuts the costs down, making the most expensive item (cold brew malt) only $6.40.
Aside from classic and house affogatos, Starbucks also came up with shakerato, an espresso shaken to an icy froth, poured over ice cream and finished with vanilla syrup and a mint sprig. Talk about YUM!
Starbucks started experimenting with affogato in summer of last year at their Seattle Roastery. It quickly became a top-five item, year round, so the coffee giant decided to test it elsewhere.
There's no word yet as to when it will start rolling out nationwide, but for now, we'll settle with lusting over these Instagram photos. *sobs*
